Doula's make a difference.
In many cultures throughout the world (and in all cultures in the past), women were supported through labour and birth by knowledgeable and experienced women. This tradition has been somewhat lost in our North American culture, much to the detriment of labouring moms. Having experienced support with you, can make all the difference in the world between a traumatic birth and a joyful one.
Your body knows how to give birth. Hiring a doula will help you stay on a course for an empowering birth experience, as you define it. With knowledge, you are able to make the choices. You decide what is done or not done.
Every labouring woman deserves to have a doula by her side.
A Birth Doula will help during your labour and delivery by providing emotional support - through encouragement, reassurance and a continuous presence - and physical support - through massage, counterpressure, positioning help, knowledge breathing and relaxation techniques. We support your partner as well, through reassurance and encouragement; we can help them be as active and involved in helping you through labour as they desire to be. We also provide informational support, especially useful for hospital births. With a full knowledge of medical interventions, their uses and overuses, we are equipped to help you make some of the most important decisions of your life.

A Birth Doula also provides prenatal support. We are there to answer your questions and address your concerns and meet three times prior labour. We also visit your home after baby has arrives (at your convenience) to see how everything is going, help with breastfeeding if needed and to give you a Keepsake Birth Story for your child.
